Question with 164 notes
saxaxe asked: As an English major/literature nerd, your blog is quite possibly my favorite thing on the internet, but I have to ask, as a self-proclaimed lover of words and literature, how can you bring yourself to constantly examine the intellectual wasteland that is the Twilight series? How have you not driven yourself absolutely insane?
I get this question a lot.
RwV started as ranting, and I’m pretty sure I’d have it out of my system by now if it weren’t for the messages I get from people who are apparently learning something from this whatever-I’m-doing. I would have seen a bright light and wandered away by now, because it is painful sometimes.
Then I get an email from someone in Singapore asking if she can have permission to use images as part of a lecture on how to write or from someone who tutors that is referring students to my tumblog. I get a ton of emails where people are self-conscious about their grammar (which means they’re paying more attention to it) or telling me they’ve cut down on the number of commas they use.
That feels so much better than reading Meyer ever makes me feel bad. The potential for good, meaningful writing is greater than the millions of copies Twilight sold. Those little squares of plastic in front of you can do anything and everything, and they will if you can wield them well. If I can have any part of that, why would I stop?
